- Might have been nice had it worked
Wasn't real happy with the purchase as my safe was sent with a defective latch. Wouldn't stay closed much less locked. The closing mechanism was defective which pretty much leaves the safe worthless. This after already ordering another safe listed that failed to allow me to to enter code and open safe and after closing it I couldn't get the safe to open manually with the key or the emergency 9 volt battery trick. Less than satisfied and the first two products I have had bad experiences with from the NRA Store. Usually high quality goods. Hope this is not a trend.

- Great bedside gun safe!
I read a lot of reviews on a lot of gun safes before purchasing this one. I liked that it has a 9v battery fail safe. In case you cannot find the key and the batteries go dead.
There are 4 buttons that require a 5 digit code to open. I think this is clever and keeps people from guessing easily.
It holds quite a bit for a small safe. You can easily put a handgun, an extra magazine and a 2 magazine holster inside. With this inside there is still room to put another gun, flashlight or pepper spray or whatever, but it would be on top of the other gun.
It comes with 2 keys, you can store one key somewhere safe and one in the safe. Then at night before going to sleep, open the safe with the digital code and put the key n the lock for faster access. Then in the morning, open again and put the key back inside.
This way if you need it open fast in the middle of the night, you will not be dependent on entering your code under duress. It also give a daily check of the batteries. Then it is safe again when you are not there.
There are small holes for tying or bolting this unit on the bottom. You could easily drill them larger if you wanted to.
The user manual was not up to date with the improvements made on the new version of this. There is a large easy to find red button on the inside to set your code. The battery pack does not need to be unscrewed to access if you have small enough hands to change the batteries.
The one downside to this safe, but to be expected at this price point is the buttons on top are very hard to see in the dark. Also if you were to unscrew the battery unit you could possibly install the buttons backwards.
I bought a magnetic push button light and put it right on top. It is $10 on Amazon.
